Has Your “Friday Mentality” Gone Too Far?

Don’t waste your potential by watching the clock!

Do you know what the most popular day of the week is to go to the gym?

That’s right. Monday.

How you start your day sets a precedent for your progress. The value of preparation is no secret. You can find a vast display of tools to help you organize your week, and articles that boast the importance of starting the week off on the right Monday morning foot.

But what about Monday morning’s more beloved, less astute brother, Friday afternoon?

You know what I’m talking about. You made it through the week and over the post-lunch slump. You’re staring down the barrel of two full days off. Be honest, how much of your focus and attention is on your goals, and how much is already kicking back on the couch with bean dip?

I read a mind-boggling statistic this week that a whopping 93% of all New Year’s resolutions go unfulfilled. That means only 7% of people are staying focused and persistent long enough to achieve their dreams. And of the majority of people who table their goals for next year, 30% of them gave up within the first 30 days. (We’re three days away from that benchmark, folks.) What does this tell me? They have a “Monday morning mentality.”

If you fizzle out at some point during the week, do you regroup and keep charging forward, or do you bag it for next week? How many times have you said, “I might as well take the weekend off and start fresh on Monday!”

Don’t waste your potential by watching the clock!

Success begins when you take all those little steps day in and day out that bring you closer to your goals. If you’re giving up by lunch on Friday, only to coast until the closing bell, you’re leaving hours of potential on the table. Total those Friday afternoon hours for the year, and you’re already in the hole by at least a hundred workable hours. Think of how many missed opportunities that amounts to.

If all you want in life is a “9 to 5” and a weekend on the couch, then squander away (if you can live with yourself knowing that you’re getting paid to do nothing, i.e. stealing from your employer). If you are your own employer, why are you tolerating that level of performance? I have a feeling you want more than that. In fact, reading this is proof positive that your eyes are set on something greater than bean dip.

See your potential through to Friday night. Jump start it on Saturday, too. Be aware of the overtime you’re putting in on your own business, and that subtle shift will impact your financial freedom.

Don’t watch the clock tick by. Stay committed past the time that others have gone home. Be among the 7%.
